How Much Does Website Maintenance Cost?

20 May 2026 By Nathan Constance

Website maintenance costs range widely depending on who's providing it and what's included. For small business websites, here's what a realistic plan looks like.

The range you'll encounter

At the bottom end, some hosting providers offer a basic managed hosting package for £10–£20/month. This typically covers server upkeep but little else — no active plugin updates, no content changes, limited support.

For proper website maintenance — regular software updates, security monitoring, backups, and some level of content support — you're typically looking at £50/month and upward.

What NC Digital's maintenance plans cost

£50/month: Covers all core technical maintenance — WordPress updates, plugin updates, security monitoring, backups, and uptime monitoring. No content additions are included in this tier, but the site is kept in good technical shape.

£75/month: Everything in the standard plan, plus the ability to add up to five new pages per month. These can be SEO service pages, location pages, project case studies, or anything else that grows the site strategically.

What you're actually paying for

The value in a maintenance plan isn't just the tasks — it's the peace of mind that someone is watching the site, that updates are handled before they cause problems, and that if something goes wrong there's a backup to restore from.

For most small businesses, the cost of one hour of emergency developer time after a hacked or broken site exceeds several months of a maintenance plan.
