Many businesses end up with their domain registered in one place and their hosting somewhere else. It's usually the result of buying a domain early — often through GoDaddy or Google Domains — and then choosing a separate host later. It works, but it creates more moving parts than necessary.
Why keeping them together makes sense
Fewer places to track: Domain renewals, hosting renewals, DNS settings — when everything is in one account, you're not juggling multiple platforms, logins, and billing dates.
Easier DNS management: Pointing a domain to a host requires updating DNS records. When both are in the same account, this is usually automatic or trivial. Across different providers, it's an extra step that introduces room for error.
Renewal risk reduction: Domain expiry is a real problem. When a domain lapses, the website goes down and email stops working. Having domain and hosting renewals managed together — ideally by someone who monitors these things — removes that risk.
Faster troubleshooting: If something goes wrong — DNS propagation issues, SSL problems, connection errors — having a single point of contact who manages both makes diagnosis and resolution faster.
How we handle it at NC Digital
For every website we build and host, we handle both the domain and the hosting. For WordPress and custom sites, we use Krystal for both. For our managed starter sites, Cloudflare handles hosting and domain management.
Clients don't need to manage renewals, DNS records, or configuration. It's all part of the service.
