Do I Need to Write My Own Website Content, or Can You Help?

15 May 2026 By Nathan Constance

For many business owners, the idea of writing website content is the biggest source of anxiety about getting a new site. "I'm not a writer" and "I wouldn't know what to say" are things we hear regularly.

The good news: you don't need to be a writer to get a great website. Here's what you actually need to provide, and what we handle on your behalf.

What You Need to Provide

To build your website, we need the facts that only you know about your business. This isn't writing — it's information gathering. Specifically:

Your business basics — Your name, trading name, phone number, email address, and location. These go on every page.

Your services — A list of what you offer. You don't need to write descriptions — just tell us what you do. "We do full and partial re-roofs, flat roofing, guttering, and fascias" is enough for us to build from.

Your service area — The towns and regions you cover. This is important for local SEO.

A brief background — How long you've been trading, any qualifications or accreditations, and anything that sets you apart. A few sentences is fine.

Photos — This is the most impactful thing you can provide. Real photos of your work, your team, or your premises make a site feel genuine and build trust. Phone photos are absolutely fine — they don't need to be professional shots, though those help if you have them.

That's it. You don't need to write a single word of copy.

What We Handle

Once we have your information, we handle everything else:

Writing the page content — We write professional, clear copy for every page on your site. This includes your home page, service pages, about page, and contact page — all written in plain English, focused on what your customers need to know, and optimised for the right search terms.

Structuring the site — We decide how many pages to include, how to structure them, and how to present your services in a way that's clear for visitors and well-organised for Google.

Ongoing content — As new pages are added each month, we research the topic, write the content, and publish it. You don't need to be involved unless you want to review it.

What If You Want Input?

Some business owners like to review content before it goes live; others prefer to simply trust the process. Both approaches work. We're happy to share drafts for your feedback, or to build and publish without your involvement beyond the initial information gathering — whichever suits you better.

If there's specific wording you use in your business — a tagline, a phrase your customers respond to, or technical language particular to your trade — tell us and we'll incorporate it.

The One Thing That Makes the Biggest Difference

If there's one investment that dramatically improves the quality of a new website, it's photos. Professionally taken photos of your completed work, your team, or your premises elevate a site significantly. If you don't have professional photos, good phone photos are far better than generic stock images — which look unconvincing on a local business site.

If you've been putting off getting a website because you felt like you'd need to write it all yourself, the barrier is lower than you think. Get in touch and we'll walk you through exactly what we need from you and what we'll do with it.
