How to Choose a Logo Designer

15 May 2026 By Nathan Constance

Not all logo designers are the same. Knowing what to look for — and what questions to ask — will help you make the right choice rather than the cheapest one.

Look at their portfolio, not their price

The most important thing to assess is the work they've already done. A logo designer's portfolio tells you more than any description of their process. Ask yourself:

  • Do the logos look professional and well-crafted?
  • Are they versatile — would they work in black and white, at small sizes?
  • Is there range, or does everything look the same?
  • Do they have experience in your industry or similar industries?

Understand what's included

Logo design pricing varies widely — and so does what you get for your money. Always clarify:

  • How many initial concepts will you receive?
  • How many rounds of revisions are included?
  • What file formats are delivered?
  • Do you receive a brand identity (colour palette, fonts, guidelines) or just a logo file?
  • Who owns the files after the project? (The answer should always be: you.)

Be wary of very cheap options

Logo design services at very low price points — whether on freelancer platforms or automated online tools — typically produce generic results. You may end up with a logo that looks similar to dozens of other businesses, or a design that can't be properly adapted for print.

The difference between a £50 logo and a £200 logo isn't just quality — it's also whether you receive a complete brand identity, proper file formats, and a design that will hold up in the real world. Read more about logo design on Fiverr vs. a professional designer for a more detailed comparison.

Communication matters

Regardless of the designer's skill level, you need to be able to communicate clearly. Look for someone who asks you questions, explains their thinking, and responds reliably.
