What I Tell Every Client Who Asks 'Will My Website Rank on Google?'

17 May 2026 By Nathan Constance

Almost every new client asks me the same thing in the first conversation: "Will my website rank on Google?"

It's a fair question. You're investing in a website and you want to know it's going to do something useful. Here's the honest answer I give them.

Every site we build has SEO foundations built in

At NC Digital, SEO basics aren't an optional extra — they're part of every website we build. That means proper page titles, meta descriptions, heading structure, fast loading, mobile-friendly design, and a CMS set up with a solid SEO plugin like Rank Math. These fundamentals are in place from day one, regardless of whether a client is on an SEO package or not.

So the short answer to "will my site rank?" is: it'll be in a much better position than a site built without these things. But that's not the whole story.

A website alone won't get you hundreds of leads

Here's what I see happen regularly: a client gets a new website, waits a few months, and then wonders why the enquiries haven't flooded in. The site looks great. The basics are in place. But the phone isn't ringing.

The reason is usually that the site is a starting point, not a finished product. Google needs content to rank — and specifically, the right content for the right searches.

What actually builds rankings over time

The websites that consistently generate leads from Google have a few things in common:

  • Location-specific service pages — targeting the exact towns and areas your customers are in
  • Service-specific pages — dedicated pages for each thing you offer, not one generic "services" page
  • Supporting blog content — articles that build topical authority around what you do

Together, these build what's called topical authority — Google's understanding that your site is a reliable, in-depth resource for a specific subject. A site with 30 well-structured pages covering your services and locations will almost always outrank a site with 5 pages, even if those 5 pages are beautifully designed.

This is where an SEO package makes the difference

Building that authority takes consistent work over time. It's not a one-off job. That's exactly what our SEO packages are designed to do — create the content, structure the site, and build the visibility that turns a good website into a consistent source of leads.

If a client just wants the website for now, that's fine — the foundations are there when they're ready to grow it. But if they want leads from Google, they need to treat the website as something that gets built upon, not something that's finished at launch.
