If you've never commissioned a logo before, the process can feel uncertain. What do you need to provide? How many options will you see? How long does it take? What do you actually get at the end?
Here's a clear, step-by-step walkthrough of what to expect when you commission a logo design with NC Digital.
Step 1: The brief
The process starts with understanding your business. We'll ask you about:
- What your business does and who your customers are
- The impression you want to make — professional, approachable, bold, minimal
- Colours you like (and ones you'd rather avoid)
- Styles you're drawn to — from examples you've seen elsewhere
- Where the logo will be used — website, signage, uniform, print materials
- Any existing brand elements you want to keep (if refreshing an existing logo)
You don't need a detailed design brief — we'll ask the right questions. The goal is to understand your business well enough to create something that genuinely represents it.
Step 2: Initial concepts
We create 5 distinct logo concepts covering different directions and styles. These aren't minor variations — they're genuinely different approaches, so you have real choices to consider.
This takes around 5–7 working days. You'll receive the concepts to review at your own pace.
Step 3: Feedback and revisions
Once you've reviewed the concepts, you tell us which direction resonates most and what you'd like adjusted. We then refine your chosen concept through revisions until it's right.
Feedback can be as specific or as general as you like — "can we try this in a darker blue?" or "I like the icon but want the font to feel more professional" are both equally useful.
Step 4: Brand identity
Alongside your finalised logo, we develop:
- Colour palette — primary and secondary brand colours with exact hex, RGB, and CMYK codes so they're consistent everywhere
- Typography — font choices that complement your logo for use in marketing materials and your website
- Brand guidelines — a simple document showing your logo versions, colours, fonts, and rules for correct usage
Step 5: Final files
Once you've approved everything, you receive your complete file package:
- PNG (transparent background, various sizes for web and digital use)
- SVG (vector — scales to any size without quality loss)
- PDF (vector — for print and professional use)
- JPEG (for general use)
Full ownership of all files transfers to you on completion.
How long does it take?
Most logo projects are completed within 5–10 working days depending on feedback turnaround. If you need it faster, let us know and we'll see what we can do.
What about pairing with a website?
If you're commissioning a logo alongside a new website, we design everything together — your brand identity feeds directly into your web design so the colours, fonts, and visual style are consistent throughout. See our web design service for more, or our Managed Starter Website if you're looking for an affordable monthly option.
