We're really pleased to announce that NC Digital is now a monthly sponsor of Matthew Waters, an undefeated amateur MMA fighter from South Wales.
Matthew is 19, fights at bantamweight (61 kg) and is currently 5-0 as an amateur. He trains at Shore MMA in Abertillery, and his next big night is a title fight in Bristol on 5 December 2026.
You can see the announcement on Instagram, and follow Matthew at @matth_waters_07.
Who is Matthew Waters?
Matthew has been serious about this from a young age. In December 2023, aged 16, he spent 12 days training at Bangtao Muay Thai & MMA in Phuket, Thailand, learning from the gym's founders and coaches.
Back home, he trains six days a week at Shore MMA under Richard Shore and Jack Shore, and also does regular one-to-one sessions with Brett Johns. Jack and Brett have both competed in the UFC, so he's learning from people who've been to the very top of the sport.
That work shows in his record. He's unbeaten in five amateur fights, he also competes in grappling at Budo events, and he's heading into the most important stretch of his amateur career so far.
Why we're backing him
Most of what we do is for businesses within a short drive of Merthyr Tydfil, and when there's a chance to support local talent, we'd rather say yes than not.
Amateur fighters don't get paid to fight. Travel to training and events, equipment, nutrition, physio and fight-camp costs all add up, and a lot of that falls on the fighter and their family. A monthly sponsorship gives Matthew some steady support while he trains, rather than a one-off.
It's the same reason we sponsor Merthyr Town FC Academy goalkeeper Mason. We like being involved in what's happening on our doorstep, and we like backing people who put the work in.
What's next
Matthew is building towards his title fight in Bristol on 5 December 2026, and we'll be following his camp and sharing updates along the way.
