How IR Energy Went from 3 Enquiries a Month to 25

17 May 2026 By Nathan Constance

IR Energy is a renewable energy installer based in Merthyr Tydfil — solar panels, battery storage, heat pumps, EV charging, insulation. Good company, experienced team, genuinely competitive on price. But when they came to me, their website was doing very little for them.

They were averaging two to three contact form submissions a month. For a business that installs renewable energy systems — where a single job can be worth thousands — that's a painful underperformance.

The problem: a homepage that didn't do its job

The existing homepage looked okay in isolation, but it wasn't built to convert. It didn't clearly communicate what IR Energy did, who it was for, or why someone should choose them over a competitor. Visitors landed, couldn't quickly find what they needed, and left.

That's the thing about homepage design that people underestimate — it's not about looking impressive. It's about answering the right questions fast enough to keep someone on the page. What do you do? Do you cover my area? Why should I trust you? How do I get a quote?

The previous homepage wasn't answering those questions clearly enough.

What we did: redesign the homepage, then build the SEO

IR Energy didn't want a completely new website — they wanted the homepage redesigned to properly reflect what they offer and convert the visitors they were already getting. That's where we started.

After the homepage was live, we moved into a three-month SEO campaign. We built 20 targeted ranking pages across South Wales — covering solar, battery storage, heat pumps, EV charging, and insulation, across multiple locations. The goal was topical authority: making IR Energy's site the most comprehensive, relevant resource for renewable energy searches in their area.

The results

Within three months of the SEO campaign:

  • +76% increase in clicks from Google
  • +164% increase in search impressions
  • 50 tracked enquiries — form submissions, phone clicks, and email interactions

And the contact form submissions? They went from 2-3 a month to consistently 20-30 a month.

That's the result I'm most proud of in the work we've done at NC Digital — not because the numbers are impressive on paper, but because I know what that difference means for a business. Going from almost no inbound leads to a consistent pipeline of 20-30 qualified enquiries per month changes how a company operates.

What made it work

Two things, both of which had to happen:

1. A homepage that converted. Traffic that lands on a poor homepage and bounces is worthless. Getting the homepage right first meant that when the SEO started driving more visitors, those visitors had a reason to get in touch.

2. Content that ranked. A well-designed homepage doesn't rank for 20 different services across 10 locations. The SEO campaign built that presence systematically — the right pages, properly structured, targeting the right searches.

Neither one alone would have produced those numbers. Both together did.

If your website is getting some traffic but not converting it, or if you're not getting traffic at all, the answer is usually one or both of those things. Get in touch and we can talk through where your site sits. Or read more in our IR Energy case study for the full breakdown.
